Space & Movement
During my MA, I worked on different projects which question the circulation in a space and the movement of the body relating to the vertical elements and how the surface of those elements communicates with the user.

In this project, I got the chance of working with BA contemporary jazz dance students and MA
choreography students, where we explored the interrelationship between body and movement, and space and space dividers. During the workshop we worked on movement and tried to figure out how or why one moves and how one’s movement relates or changes one another’s movement.

We first started to work in a black box where nothing is described. According to my observations, we mostly move subconsciously and move more freely as long as we do not relate to anyone or anything. However the motions have references from our daily activities and the objects we are familiar with. Therefore, it is very ineluctable to do movements such as sitting on an imaginary chair or looking out from an imaginary window.

Then we added the human factor to it, and improvised moving altogether on a stage where there is nothing described or emotionally triggering. That was ineluctable not to copy others and follow them after a while.

When we started using movable partitions, then we had physical notice to change the movement. The space was leading us, not giving any concrete command yet forming the speed or the quality of our movements. Briefly, what I found out is that we tend to complete the scene and move in a very complimentary, interrelated, and corresponding way.
